Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers: a global peer community, free AI and technology skills for nonprofit and intergovernmental organisation staff
Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers is built around three connected experiences: learn, connect, transform. Nonprofit and intergovernmental organisation professionals build practical AI and technology skills through role-based pathways, join a multilingual global community of peers working in similar conditions, and apply what they learn to their mission. Training, community participation and digital credentials are all free of charge.
About This Offer
Civil society organisations are frequently the delivery mechanism for development outcomes, yet they are usually last in line for technology capability. Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers is designed to move nonprofit and intergovernmental staff from AI curiosity to responsible, real-world adoption — strengthening the organisations that communities already rely on. Learning is organised as sequenced, role-based pathways rather than a general course catalogue, so a fundraiser, a programme delivery lead, an operations manager and a board member each find material relevant to their work. Training is available live and on demand, grounded in real nonprofit scenarios. Digital credentials and badges are embedded within the pathways as markers of progress. The training journey runs from Digital Foundations through Start with AI, Work with AI, and Scale with AI — a deliberate progression from basic digital capability to organisational adoption. Content has been shaped with sector authorities including TechSoup and UNITAR, so it reflects how these organisations actually operate rather than a corporate training model transplanted into the sector. Connection is one of the programme's three pillars, standing alongside learning and application rather than beneath them. Participants join a multilingual digital community with global and local peer-exchange hubs, communities of practice, and events. Hubs are open to all participants. Fellowship opportunities run as limited open calls and offer selected participants deeper collaboration and implementation support. For organisations working with small teams and constrained budgets, the peer network is often as valuable as the training. A programme lead in one country can see how a comparable organisation elsewhere approached the same problem — what worked, what did not, and what it cost them to find out. That kind of practical knowledge rarely reaches the sector through formal channels. Global partnerships extend the same principle, including an intergovernmental organisation fellowship. A train-the-trainer partner programme certifies delivery partners, building local capability to deliver the training independently and widening the community further in each market. For leaders, the programme offers a practical route to building internal capability without a technology budget — staff develop skills that return directly to the organisation. Who it is for
